CLEVELAND— The Cleveland Orchestra’s Summers at Severance concert series is back for 2025, bringing a thrilling lineup of concerts to Severance Music Center.
After a successful return in 2024 following a five-year hiatus, Summers at Severance continues to offer an unforgettable summer experience with pre-concert cocktails on Severance’s picturesque front terrace and world-class music in Mandel Concert Hall.
Launched in 2014 to expand the Orchestra’s summer offerings in University Circle, Summers at Severance provides a chance to experience both beloved works and hidden gems, conducted by world-renowned conductors and featuring incredible soloists. This year’s series is sure to liven up your summer evenings.
The series opens with a night of elegance in conductor Marie Jacquot’s Cleveland Orchestra debut on Thursday, July 10. She leads the Orchestra in Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni and Richard Strauss’ Symphony in F minor. Violinist Randall Goosby returns for the first time since 2011 for Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3.
Santtu-Matias Rouvali returns to Severance on Thursday, July 17 following his acclaimed Cleveland Orchestra debut in November. He’ll conduct Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2, Stravinsky’s card game-inspired Jeu de cartes, and Ravel’s Suite No. 2 from Daphnis et Chloé.
The third concert of the series offers a dramatic evening of Hungarian-inspired works on Thursday, July 31. Conductor Christoph Koncz leads the Orchestra through Liszt’s Les préludes, Dohnányi’s Symphonic Minutes, and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra.
Summers at Severance concludes with Dima Slobodeniouk taking the podium for Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii’s Cleveland Orchestra debut on Thursday, August 21. Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 completes the program.

MOZART Overture to Don Giovanni MOZART Violin Concerto No. 3 R. STRAUSS Symphony in F minor
Summers at Severance kicks off with a Mozart doubleheader. Famously composed in just one night, the composer’s fiery Don Giovanni Overture is contrasted with his delightful Third Violin Concerto, performed by rising American violinist Randall Goosby. Conductor Marie Jacquotalso leads the Cleveland Orchestra premiere of Richard Strauss’s Symphony in F minor, a dramatic early work that foreshadows the composer’s later style.

BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 2 STRAVINSKY Jeu de cartes RAVEL Suite No. 2 from Daphnis et Chloé
Beethoven’s youthful Second Symphony echoes the humor and elegance of an earlier era while offering a window into the boldness of his later symphonies. The Cleveland Orchestra and conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali pair this early work with music from Ravel’s ballet Daphnis et Chloé, a sumptuous journey across mythical landscapes. Providing the perfect complement, Stravinsky’s Jeu de cartes depicts a rousing game of cards in a sparkling neoclassical style.

The Cleveland Orchestra Christoph Koncz, conductor
LISZT Les préludes DOHNÁNYI Symphonic Minutes BARTÓK Concerto for Orchestra
Three Hungarian composers meet in this kaleidoscopic program led by conductor Christoph Koncz. Liszt’s poetic Les préludes is followed by a delightful work by Ernst von Dohnányi, the grandfather of Music Director Laureate Christoph von Dohnányi. Capping the evening is Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, a symphonic tour-de-force that gives every section of The Cleveland Orchestra a chance to shine.

The Cleveland Orchestra Dima Slobodeniouk, conductor Nobuyuki Tsujii, piano
CHOPIN Piano Concerto No. 2 RACHMANINOFF Symphony No. 2
Alongside their careers as virtuoso pianists, Chopin and Rachmaninoff were brilliant composers, filling their works to the brim with rhapsodic melodies and luxurious harmonies. The two are paired in this dynamic program that showcases acclaimed pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii in Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto. Dima Slobodeniouk then leads Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony, an expansive work first recorded by The Cleveland Orchestra in 1928 with close guidance from the composer himself.
